The Doppelganger Mystery: Silver Palace's Detective sibling Motive

The Doppelganger Mystery is a 5-star Hero Motive in Silver Palace, and its flavor text is about the two Detective siblings, Hugin and Munin. Its effect gives 25% CRIT Rate and boosts ATK and CRIT after a Tactical Assault or a Skill.

What Elementa posted

Elementa posted the art on October 29, 2026, under the label "Hidden Pages", a few hours after the Hugin and Munin title pages. The post is a ten-second animated card that dissolves between two illustrations, with "The Doppelganger Mystery", five stars and the Hero badge along the bottom. The caption is the Motive's own flavor text:

The Detective siblings make a perfect team. A glance or a gesture is enough for them to exchange information, skipping class, going on adventures, playing detective games together.
They once believed that their blood-bound trust could last forever, until the day came when the mirror became the only way to see the other's face.

On either side of the glass, the reflection and its source each become the other's assistant, detective, cause, and effect.

The two illustrations

The first picture is the pair as you know them. They lie head to head, one upside down above the other, both in the black-and-violet Detective coats, each with a black hat in hand. Blue irises, black raven feathers and ravens fill the space around them. The composition is a mirror: turn the image over and the other sibling takes the same place.

Silver Palace The Doppelganger Mystery second illustration, the Detective siblings dressed in white on a tufted white chaise under a mounted stag head, the brother in a beret and the sister in a lace dress holding a masquerade mask, among magnolias and strings of pearls

The second picture swaps every black for white. The siblings sit at either end of a white chaise in a gilded salon, under a mounted stag head and branches of magnolia. He wears a pale beret with a tassel and a white military coat with a violet sash. She wears a lace dress and a checked hat with a bow, and holds a masquerade mask up to her face. He holds one too, resting on his knee. The ravens are gone.

The first image is the source and the second is the reflection, or the other way round, and the card never settles which. That is the caption's point.

What the flavor text says

Read against the title pages, the caption is the saddest text either Detective has been given. Both cards say the other sibling disappeared three years ago in the airship crash linked to the Queen's assassination. "The mirror became the only way to see the other's face" is what that means for a twin-like pair: you look at your own reflection and see the one you lost.

The last line goes further. "Assistant, detective, cause, and effect" puts each sibling on both sides of a case. One investigates and the other is the cause. Hugin's quote ("No marks left behind. Almost a perfect crime... just kidding.") and Munin's ("What links seemingly unrelated fragments together may be logic, but it could also be illusions or conspiracies.") already pointed that way. This is a reading, not a confirmed plot point, but three official texts now lean in the same direction. The Raven's Beak and Claws explainer covers how the two banners fit together.

What the Motive does

Attribute Value
Rarity ★★★★★ (5-star)
Identity Hero
Main stats HP and ATK (216 HP and 26 ATK at level 1, 4,762 HP and 582 ATK at max)
Effect Doppelganger

At the lowest refine, the Doppelganger effect reads: "The character using this Motive gains 25% CRIT Rate. Upon unleashing a Tactical Assault, their ATK is increased by 20% for 16s; upon unleashing a skill, their CRIT Rate is increased by 25% for 4s."

Refine CRIT Rate ATK after Tactical Assault (16s) CRIT Rate after Skill (4s)
1 25% 20% 25%
2 30% 24% 30%
3 35% 28% 35%
4 40% 32% 40%
5 45% 36% 45%

It is one of two 5-star Hero Motives, and the other, The Ordinance Mystery, scales Amplitude instead. The Doppelganger Mystery is the plain crit option.

The fit with the Detective kit is close. The Detectives are Hero characters, and their kit runs through the two buttons this effect watches: the Tactical Assault "One-Half" of a Retaliation on switch-in, and the Skill Raven Slayer, whose Charged Shot feeds the Occam's Razor passive. At refine 1, a Raven Slayer cast puts the Detective at 50% CRIT Rate from the Motive alone for four seconds. Elementa has not labelled any Motive as a character's signature, but this one names the siblings and rewards their rotation.

The stat slider, refine stepper and breakthrough costs are on the Doppelganger Mystery Motive page. The Detective rotation is in the Detective build guide.
