Pure Decay Concentrate item art from Silver Palace

Radiatio (Decay)

In-game item text, all 4 tiers

  1. Basic Decay Concentrate

The Azure Cave Experiment laid out Silverium's properties to us, and disaster was merely the next evolutionary step.

  2. Filtered Decay Concentrate

Glows with a pale light, a faint gleam yet one that can set one's soul aflame with a burning ache.

  3. Rectified Decay Concentrate

Residents of the Gravelkin periphery and UMI's Office of Frontier Exploration are quite familiar with this by now. It has triggered the emergence of a strange, living being.

  4. Pure Decay Concentrate

Radioactive Silverium, being both rare and volatile, remains imperfectly understood Through the use of specialised metal instruments, however, one may yet discern its internal structure.

Every Reactor Attribute has a concentrate line: four tiers of refined Silverium, farmed from Potential Exploration, spent on Potential Breaks. Most of them are written as industrial copy. Radiatio's line is written as an incident report.

The arc

The basic tier opens on the Azure Cave Experiment, and the sentence it uses is the coldest in the family. The experiment laid out Silverium's properties, and disaster was merely the next evolutionary step. Not an accident, not a failure. The next step.

The filtered tier turns physical. It glows pale, a faint gleam that can set a soul aflame with a burning ache. That is radiation sickness written as longing, and it is the only tier that describes what the material does to a person.

The rectified tier is the one worth stopping on. Residents of the Gravelkin periphery and UMI's Office of Frontier Exploration are familiar with this by now, and it has triggered the emergence of a strange living being. The sentence names a place, names the department that has a file on it, and then declines to say what the being is.

The pure tier retreats into procedure. Radioactive Silverium is rare, volatile, imperfectly understood, and specialised metal instruments can discern its internal structure. Somebody has been sent to measure the thing rather than explain it.

Reading the four together

This site already covers the Azure Cave Experiment and the question of whether Silverium is alive. The Radiatio line is the version of that question with a location attached. The corner of the map where it happened is Gravelkin, the organisation that filed it is United Mining Industry, and the specific claim is emergence, not contamination.

Emergence is a strong word to leave lying in a farming material. It says the radiation did not damage something that was already there. It produced something that was not.

Two characters run on Radiatio: Firtho, a surgeon, and Captain Kaboom, a technician. A doctor and an engineer, which is roughly the staffing you would send to that periphery.

All four tiers are listed by name on the element concentrates page, flavour text omitted, next to the six other attributes whose lines say nothing this specific.
