Hero's Path
In-game item text, all 4 tiers
Paper-Crafted Medal
The laughter of childhood still echoes in one's ears. Childlike longings will one day grow into a fervent blaze.
Wood-Carved Medal
Medals are not only awarded to those who have achieved incredible feats. Simple dedication and persevering commitment should be commended as well.
Metal-Cast Medal
A promise made. A responsibility taken. A proof of splendorous yet sombre achievement of honour.
Royal Ribboned Medal
Attaining it grants more than mere motivation: it can also be sold at an impressive price. That in itself can be an even greater reason to obtain it.
Hero's Path is the ascension route for the Hero Identity, and its four drops are medals. The tier order is the manufacturing method: paper, wood, metal, then a royal ribbon. What the flavour text does with that order is not what you would expect from a line called Hero's Path.
The arc
The paper medal is made by children during pretend play, with crooked handwriting on it, and the line is warm. Childhood laughter still in the ear, childlike longing that will one day become a fervent blaze. This is the only tier that believes in the word hero without qualification.
The wooden medal is a correction. Medals are not only for incredible feats, and simple dedication deserves commending too. It reads as consolation, and it is aimed at whoever is farming the drop.
The metal medal is the one that sounds like a hero's reward, and it is also the shortest. A promise made, a responsibility taken, proof of an achievement that is splendorous yet sombre. Three fragments, all of them about obligation rather than glory. Nothing there is fun.
The royal ribboned medal is the top tier, and the game gives up. It grants more than motivation, because it can also be sold at an impressive price, and that can be an even better reason to want one. The highest honour on the Hero ladder is recommended to you as an asset.
What the ladder thinks of heroism
Four characters carry the Hero Identity: Hugin, Munin, Rex and Alf. Two of them are the Detective. Rex is a police superintendent.
Compare this with the other Identity ladders and the tone stands out. Guardian's Resilience is a slow breakdown. Saviour's Aid says help requires harm. Hero's Path is the only one that undercuts itself with money, and it does it at the exact tier where a progression system is supposed to make you feel rewarded.
That is a deliberate joke about pretending. The ladder opens on children playing at being heroes and closes on an adult valuing the trophy. Between those two points it never once describes an actual heroic act.
Where the text sits
All four drop from Hero's Path, and the ascension materials page lists them by name with no flavour text, the same as every other ladder on the site.
