Scarlet Gambit: Silver Palace's Balatro-Like Minigame

The Silver Palace Dichotomy Beta is packed with side content, and one minigame stands out for how closely it tracks an existing hit. Scarlet Gambit, a poker roguelike hosted by Red Rose, plays almost 1:1 with Balatro, the deck-building card game that swept 2024. This piece is a curious side-by-side, not a callout: the mode is a genuinely fun surprise to find inside a gacha, and the beta build already runs it well enough to sink real time into, rough edges and performance dips aside.

Everything below comes from hands-on time with the beta build, so treat card names, numbers, and effects as pre-release: balance and naming can shift before launch. Where a Scarlet Gambit item lines up with a specific Balatro card, this guide names both.

How Scarlet Gambit plays

The loop will feel instantly familiar to anyone who has touched Balatro. Red Rose sits across the table as the house. Each round she sets a score you have to beat, shown as Opponent's Score, and clearing it pays out Insider Info as your reward currency. Beat her and you advance to the next round, where the required score climbs higher. Between rounds you visit a shop to buy items that expand what your deck can do.

You beat her score by playing winning poker combinations from a hand of cards: High Card, Pair, Two Pair, Three of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Full House, Four of a Kind, Straight Flush, and Royal Flush. That is the same hand ladder Balatro uses. Each combination has its own base Chips and Integrity value, and your final score is Chips multiplied by Integrity. If you have played Balatro, Integrity is just Mult with a new name.

The playfield reinforces the resemblance. Play and Discard buttons sit under the table with limited uses per round, matching Balatro's Hands and Discards. Your passive buff cards line the left side, your consumables sit on the right, and the standard 52-card deck is reskinned with thematic suit icons (a crescent moon, a rose, a peacock eye, and a star) over the usual A through K ranks.

The translation table

Most of Scarlet Gambit's systems are Balatro systems with the serial numbers filed off and Silvernia flavor painted on. Here is how the vocabulary maps:

Balatro Scarlet Gambit
Jokers Confidants
Planet cards Lagers
Tarot and consumable cards Wax Seals
Blinds (Small, Big, Boss) Contenders
Ante Round
Money Insider Info
Mult Integrity
Chips Chips
The shop Table Service
Stakes Difficulties
Eternal sticker Fated effect

The three item types do exactly what their Balatro counterparts do, so each deserves a closer look.

Lagers are Planet cards

Lagers upgrade a specific poker hand, raising the base Chips and Integrity you earn every time you play that combination. That is the Planet card role, one for one. The shop's Unity Lager reads "Increases the level of Flushes. Gain +15 Chips and +3 Integrity," which is the same job Balatro's Jupiter does for the Flush.

Wax Seals are Tarots and card enhancements

Wax Seals sit in the consumable slots and either buff your cards or change their state, covering the ground Balatro's Tarot cards do. Several apply an Insignia to a chosen card, which is the equivalent of a Balatro card enhancement, and two of them line up with familiar cards exactly:

Scarlet Gambit Disappearance Wax Seal applying the Lurk Insignia for x1.5 Integrity while the card stays in hand

Disappearance applies the Lurk Insignia: "x1.5 Integrity while this card remains in your hand." That is the Steel Card, which grants X1.5 Mult while it sits unplayed in your hand.

Scarlet Gambit Offering Wax Seal applying the Sacrifice Insignia for x2 Integrity with a chance to destroy the card

Offering applies the Sacrifice Insignia: "x2 Integrity, 25% chance of this card being destroyed when played." That is the Glass Card down to the numbers, a X2 Mult enhancement with a one-in-four chance to shatter.

Confidants are Jokers

Confidants are the heart of any run, exactly as Jokers are in Balatro. They hold their slots on the left and grant conditional buffs: play a certain hand, hold certain cards, or score certain ranks, and the Confidant pays out. The shop's Mirror Crown grants "+10 Integrity if the cards played include a Two Pairs," and Frost Crown grants Integrity for scoring specific cards, both textbook Joker templates.

Confidants also carry rarity tiers, and the top tier is where the clearest homage sits. Coronation, marked Supreme, reads "K and Q cards played grant x2 Integrity during scoring." That is Triboulet, Balatro's Legendary Joker whose played Kings and Queens each give X2 Mult. Same trigger, same multiplier, same top-of-the-pool rarity.

Table Service is the shop

Between Contenders you spend Insider Info at Table Service, a shop that offers a rotating mix of Confidants, Lagers, and Wax Seals, plus reroll options. The layout, the buy-and-skip flow, and the way rarities gate what shows up all mirror Balatro's between-blind shop.

Difficulties are Stakes

The deepest parallel is the difficulty ladder. Scarlet Gambit's higher difficulties, such as Scarlet Depths Difficulty VIII (Nightmare), stack modifiers through a Chamber Effect the same way Balatro's Stakes layer their rules.

Difficulty VIII is nearly a straight copy of Balatro's Black Stake. Its Chamber Effect notes that Table Service "may offer Confidants with a Fated effect (cannot be sold or destroyed)," which is the Eternal sticker Black Stake introduces for Jokers, right down to the sell-and-destroy lock. Higher difficulties also raise the Intel (score) needed to beat Contenders and cut the Insider Info they pay, the same escalating-cost, shrinking-reward squeeze Balatro's Stakes apply.

There is far more overlap than a single article can catalog. Mapping every Confidant, Lager, and Wax Seal against Balatro's full roster of Jokers, Planets, and Tarots would take a spreadsheet, and even at a glance the shared DNA is hard to miss.

What it means for the beta

Scarlet Gambit is one of five minigames in the Dichotomy build, alongside chess duels, blackjack, forensic autopsies and urban horse racing. The Minigames guide covers all of them.

None of this is a knock on Silver Palace. Scarlet Gambit is one of the more interesting things to find tucked inside a gacha side menu, and a deck-building roguelike this fully realized is a real draw for players who want something to chew on between story quests and combat. It is worth watching whether the mode leans further into its own identity, adds original Confidants and Insignias, or files off the closest resemblances before the game leaves beta.

If you want to try it yourself, the Dichotomy Beta Test guide covers how to get in, and Red Rose's character title page and kit reveal cover the host of the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Scarlet Gambit in Silver Palace?

Scarlet Gambit is a poker roguelike minigame in the Silver Palace Dichotomy Beta, hosted by Red Rose. You build winning poker hands to beat a target score, earn a reward currency called Insider Info, and buy items between rounds to strengthen your deck.

Is Scarlet Gambit a Balatro clone?

Scarlet Gambit is extremely similar to Balatro. It uses the same poker-hand scoring, a Chips times Integrity (Mult) formula, a between-round shop, and item types that map directly onto Balatro's Jokers, Planet cards, and Tarots. Several individual cards match specific Balatro cards almost exactly.

How does scoring work in Scarlet Gambit?

Each poker hand has a base Chips value and a base Integrity value. Your score is Chips multiplied by Integrity, and you win the round if it clears the Opponent's Score set by Red Rose. Integrity is Scarlet Gambit's name for Balatro's Mult.

What are Confidants, Lagers, and Wax Seals?

Confidants are passive buff cards like Balatro's Jokers. Lagers upgrade specific poker hands like Planet cards. Wax Seals are consumables that buff cards or apply Insignia enhancements, filling the role of Balatro's Tarot cards.

Which Scarlet Gambit cards match Balatro cards?

Disappearance (Lurk Insignia, x1.5 Integrity while held in hand) matches the Steel Card, Offering (Sacrifice Insignia, x2 Integrity with a 25% destroy chance) matches the Glass Card, and the Supreme Confidant Coronation (x2 Integrity from Kings and Queens) matches the Legendary Joker Triboulet. Difficulty VIII's Fated effect matches Balatro's Eternal sticker.
