Silver Palace has one protagonist, the Detective, and you choose which version of them you play
before the story starts. The male Detective is Hugin. The female Detective is Munin. Those
are the names the game itself puts on the Character Identity screen, and they are the answer to the
question most people arrive with.

The two names, and where they come from

Huginn and Muninn are Odin's two ravens in Norse mythology, and their names translate roughly to
thought and memory. Every morning they fly out over the world, watch everything, and come
back at dusk to tell Odin what they saw. For a detective that is not a loose thematic echo, it is a
job description, and the raven branding carries through the banners, the faction naming and Munin's
Ultimate, "Thus Spake the Raven". The name origins breakdown

What the choice actually changes

Less than you would expect, and more than nothing.

Both builds share their base stats exactly, along with every ability name and every Psyche name.
Their Ultimates land within half a percent of each other. So this is not a strength decision, and
nobody is locked out of content by picking the one they like the look of.

The damage does split, though, and it splits consistently: Munin is paid for finishing combos and
for countering, Hugin for charged attacks and for swapping in. If you like holding an attack and
committing to it, or rotating the team constantly, Hugin's numbers reward that. If you like running
the full five-hit string and punishing what the enemy throws at you, Munin's do. The per-ability

The male Detective was not in the first test

Worth knowing if you read older coverage and came away confused. Monotype, the first closed test
in January 2026, shipped the female Detective only. The male option arrived with Dichotomy in
July 2026, the same build that took the roster from 7 playable characters to 15 and added the
structured interrogation system. Anything written before July that says the protagonist is a woman
was accurate at the time and is not any more.

Who the Detective is

The setup is the same whichever you pick. The Detective left Silvernia three years ago, after a
disaster, and has now come back to a city where conspiracies fester under a surface of peace, with a
fragile justice system and noble politics nobody can see into. They are rational, reliable and
efficient, built around observation and analysis, and they are driven by loss: the thing they are
actually chasing is the truth behind the death of someone they loved.
