Silver Palace Combat Style Guide: Every Role Explained
Silver Palace Combat Style Guide: Every Role Explained
Recent expo preview footage of Silver Palace's character Details screen confirms a system nobody had documented yet: Combat Style. It sits alongside two screens the site has already covered, Reactor Attribute (the elemental affinity) and a narrative Identity label, and the footage finally clarifies how the three relate. Short version: they are not the same thing, and earlier hands-on coverage (this site's own CBT1 review included) blurred that line.
Quick Answer
Combat Style is Silver Palace's actual gameplay role system, the filter that tells you what a character does in a fight. There are five: Resonator Output (damage through Resonance Effects), Striker Output (damage through skills), Break Oppressor (building Stuns), Combat Vanguard (buffing allies), and Survival Healer (healing or shielding). It is separate from Reactor Attribute, the character's element (seven confirmed so far: Ignis, Glacies, Fulmen, Gravitas, Radiatio, Ferrugo and Alba), and separate again from the six-way Identity label (Hero, Guardian, Outlaw, Victim, Saviour and Witness), which reads as narrative flavor rather than a battlefield job.
Combat Style: the five real roles
The Details screen's Combat Style tab lists five roles, each with a one-line in-game description of what the role excels at:

| Icon | Role | What it does |
|---|---|---|
![]() |
Resonator Output | Characters that excel at damaging enemies with Resonance Effects |
![]() |
Striker Output | Characters that excel at damaging enemies with skills |
![]() |
Break Oppressor | Characters that excel at building up Stuns |
![]() |
Combat Vanguard | Characters that provide powerful buffs to their allies |
![]() |
Survival Healer | Characters that can heal or shield their allies |
The split worth paying attention to is Resonator Output versus Striker Output. Both read as damage roles on the surface, but the game is explicitly separating damage that comes from Resonance Effects from damage that comes from a character's own skills. That distinction only matters once you understand how Resonance works: it is Silver Palace's replacement for elemental reactions, a team-wide buff system that reads your party's Reactor Attributes. A Resonator Output character is built to cash in on those buffs; a Striker Output character deals damage regardless of what the rest of the team is running.
Break Oppressor, Combat Vanguard and Survival Healer map more cleanly onto familiar gacha shorthand: stagger/stun specialist, buffer, and healer. What is new is having them as an explicit, named filter at all. Earlier hands-on coverage of the January CBT1 build (including this site's own review) tried to infer roles from a character's Identity label instead, reading Hero as "the damage class" and Witness as "the healer bracket." That inference did not hold up even in CBT1 (Cynthia II, a Witness, turned out to lean on crowd control rather than healing), and this footage shows why: Identity was never the role filter. Combat Style is.
Reactor Attribute: the seven elements
This part is not new information, but the preview footage's in-game codex text matches what CBT1 already established, which is a useful confirmation this deep into the pre-release window. Seven Reactor Attributes are defined:

| Icon | Element | What an activated Reactor does |
|---|---|---|
![]() |
Fulmen | Converts Silverium into highly conductive magnetofluid, dealing Fulmen DMG |
![]() |
Ignis | Converts Silverium into super-heated combustible gel, dealing Ignis DMG |
![]() |
Glacies | Converts Silverium into ultra-cold condensate, dealing Glacies DMG |
![]() |
Gravitas | Converts Silverium into a concentrated dark-matter halo, dealing Gravitas DMG |
![]() |
Radiatio | Converts Silverium into unstable radioactive material, dealing Radiatio DMG |
![]() |
Alba | Converts Silverium into stable pure-phase matter, dealing Alba DMG |
![]() |
Ferrugo | Converts contaminated Silverium into an excited state, dealing Ferrugo DMG |
For the deeper theory on how these seven might interact, and which five were actually playable in CBT1, see the catalyst attribute reactor breakdown and the CBT1 review. As of that beta, Ferrugo and Alba still had no playable characters attached to them, and nothing in this newer footage confirms that has changed.
Identity: six narrative archetypes, not a role
The third screen is where the site's own past coverage needs a correction. Identity lists six values, each with a narrative description rather than a combat function:

| Icon | Identity | Description |
|---|---|---|
![]() |
Hero | One who leads with influence and shoulders the burden of difficult decisions |
![]() |
Guardian | One who guards a lifelong ideal with fierce devotion, willing to destroy anything that dares threaten what is sacred |
![]() |
Outlaw | One driven by powerful ambition and an impulse for destruction, who would do anything to accomplish a goal |
![]() |
Victim | One trapped by memories and unable to give up the past, who must also face sacrifice and departure |
![]() |
Saviour | One who possesses the wisdom to defy death, betray a predetermined fate, and bear the price that follows |
![]() |
Witness | One who observes, witnesses, records, and narrates everything to pass the story on |
Read those descriptions again and it is obvious none of them describe a battlefield job. They describe a character's narrative role in Silvernia's story, in the same register as an archetype label in a novel or film, not a class. That lines up with a theory this site already floated: Silver Palace's characters can be read as archetypal story roles rather than functional labels. This footage upgrades that from theory to confirmed UI text.
It also means two other pieces of this site's coverage were mixing up two different systems and should be read with that correction in mind. The CBT1 review's Identity section (Hero, Guardian and Witness were the three playable Identities in that beta) is still accurate as a list of names, but its framing of Hero as "the damage class" and Witness as "the healer bracket" was an inference, not a confirmed mechanic, and this footage shows the real mechanical role sits with Combat Style instead. Separately, the Motives guide's claim of "5 Identities: Hero, Guardian, Witness, Shadow, Sage" does not match this or any other confirmed source and should not be treated as current.
How the three systems fit together
| System | What it tells you | Confirmed values |
|---|---|---|
| Reactor Attribute | Element and damage type | 7: Ignis, Glacies, Fulmen, Gravitas, Radiatio, Ferrugo, Alba |
| Combat Style | Battlefield role | 5: Resonator Output, Striker Output, Break Oppressor, Combat Vanguard, Survival Healer |
| Identity | Narrative archetype | 6: Hero, Guardian, Outlaw, Victim, Saviour, Witness |
A character carries one value from each system at once. Element decides damage type and Resonance eligibility, Combat Style decides the job they do in a fight, and Identity decides what kind of character they are in the story being told. None of the three determine the others, which is why relying on Identity alone to guess a character's role stopped working the moment the roster grew past the first handful of CBT1 units.
What's still unconfirmed
- Which specific characters carry which Combat Style role. The footage shows the filter categories and their descriptions, not a full roster tagged against them.
- Whether Ferrugo or Alba have any playable characters yet.
- Whether more Combat Style roles or Identity values exist beyond what this filter screen showed.
Treat the five roles, seven elements and six archetypes above as the confirmed shape of the system, and treat any character-to-role assignment you see elsewhere as unofficial until Elementa Games confirms it directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Combat Style in Silver Palace?
Combat Style is the game's gameplay role filter, shown on the character Details screen. It has five values: Resonator Output, Striker Output, Break Oppressor, Combat Vanguard and Survival Healer.
Is Identity the same thing as Combat Style?
No. Identity (Hero, Guardian, Outlaw, Victim, Saviour, Witness) is a narrative archetype describing a character's place in the story. Combat Style is the separate, mechanical role filter. Earlier coverage that treated Identity names like Hero or Witness as role labels was working off an inference that this footage shows was incorrect.
How many Reactor Attributes are there?
Seven are confirmed: Ignis, Glacies, Fulmen, Gravitas, Radiatio, Ferrugo and Alba. Five of those (Ignis, Glacies, Fulmen, Gravitas, Radiatio) had playable characters as of the January CBT1 beta.
What is the difference between Resonator Output and Striker Output?
Both are damage roles, but Resonator Output characters are built to capitalize on the Resonance system's team-wide buffs, while Striker Output characters deal damage through their own skills independent of the team's Resonance state.
Are these systems final?
No. Silver Palace is still pre-release, and terminology, icons and role assignments can change before launch. Treat this as the confirmed shape of the system as of the latest preview footage, not a locked spec.
